Organising your move

Organisation

Discuss how the move will be organised with Dockx Movers.
Inform the removal experts about valuable, fragile and heavy objects.
Begin on time; pack a few boxes every day.
Work methodically; go through each room separately and use separate boxes for each room.
Make an inventory of the boxes in each room.
Number each box, and indicate directly on the box the room in which it belongs at the final destination.
Keep all keys, hand tools and lists together in one box.

Packing

Use the appropriate boxes for your belongings, and check to make sure they are strong enough.
Rule of thumb for choosing the right box: the heavier the objects, the smaller the box.
Fill boxes that are not completely full with packing material so that the box contents cannot move about.
Heavy objects should go at the bottom of the box, and lighter ones on top.
Don't pack boxes heavier than 20 kilograms.
Close all boxes completely, and tape them closed with adhesive tape.

Moving special items: desk drawers

Remove breakable objects and items that can leak.
Do not put too much in the drawers.

Moving special items: glass & dinnerware

Wrap glassware, cups and plates separately in paper and place them in small moving boxes.
Use clothing or towels to protect them against shocks.
Heavy objects, such as plates, should be placed at the bottom of the box.
Place fragile glassware, such as wine glasses, upright in the box.
Mark the boxes as containing fragile items.

Moving special items: clocks

Remove or secure the pendulum in large clocks.
Large, standing clocks should be packed by a Dockx Movers packing expert.

Moving special items: carpets & curtains

Pack carpets in clean boxes.
Remove curtains from their rails and pack them in boxes or in desk drawers.

Moving special items: flammable substances

Never pack combustible or highly flammable liquids or spray cans together with other items. Temperature and pressure differences can cause leaks or even explosions.
Should an accident or damages occur due to the presence of these substances, you may be held responsible.

Moving special items: lamps

Remove all bulbs and lamp shades and roll up and secure the cords.
Wrap the lamp shades in packing paper.
Place the lamp shades upright in the box.
Use adhesive tape to secure decorative buttons and other accessories to the inside of the box.

Moving special items: medicines

If you or someone in your household takes medications, be sure to set aside what is necessary for moving day.
Tightly close the medicine boxes with tape, and place the medicines in small boxes.

Moving special items: mirrors and paintings

Notify your removal expert in advance about the presence of valuable paintings or works of art.
Carefully and securely pack mirrors, frames and paintings, and place them on their sides in heavy, well-made boxes.
Large mirrors will be packed into special boxes by the removal experts.

Moving special items: computers, TVs, sound systems and other audio-visual equipment

Pack valuable electronics in their original packaging, if you still have it.
Don't have the original packaging? Then use other sturdy boxes, and partially fill them with packing material. Then wrap the equipment in a blanket or sheets and place them into the boxes. Place more packing material on top of the equipment to fill the box.
Pack cables and cords separately and label them carefully. Place them in a plastic bag.

Moving special items: tools

Empty the fuel from any machines and tools.
Do not move combustible substances!
Pack tools in small, strong boxes.
Pack valuable equipment separately.

Moving special items: cars and motorbikes

The petrol tanks of cars and motorbikes must be almost empty if they are to be transported in a moving truck.
Batteries must be disconnected.
