Moving a piano safely and professionally

Moving a piano requires more than physical strength alone. Whether it concerns a digital piano, an upright piano or a baby grand, careful planning, the right equipment and experienced hands are essential. At Dockx Movers, we understand both the emotional and financial value of your instrument. That is why we offer a safe and efficient piano moving service tailored to your needs.

Please note: our service applies only to pianos with a maximum length of 1.60 metres (including baby grands). For larger pianos, such as salon or concert grands, we recommend contacting your piano dealer.

Why move your piano with Dockx Movers?

Pianos are not only heavy, but also extremely delicate. Even a compact baby grand can weigh up to 350 kilograms. This makes the use of proper techniques and sufficient manpower crucial. Dockx Movers has the necessary experience, specialised equipment and a carefully thought-out approach to move these instruments safely and professionally.

How we move your piano

When you choose Dockx Movers to relocate your piano, we follow a precise and structured process to ensure safe and damage-free transport.

Inspection and preparation

Based on photos and your information, we assess the technical characteristics of your piano. We determine the safest moving route and ensure adequate protection for both the piano and your home.

Packing and protection

The piano is carefully lifted and wrapped in specialised moving blankets, providing maximum protection against impact and scratches. If required, the piano can also be fully enclosed (e.g. crated) upon request.

Transport

We use vehicles equipped with the appropriate securing systems to transport your piano safely. Our movers apply professional lifting and loading techniques to eliminate the risk of damage.

Delivery and placement

Upon arrival, we place the piano in the desired location. The instrument is positioned correctly so it is immediately ready for use.

FAQ

A piano is heavy, difficult to handle, and susceptible to damage. Without the proper technique, there is a high risk of injury, damage to the instrument, or damage to stairs and walls. A professional approach prevents these risks.
No. A piano does not need to be dismantled beforehand. After the move, it is normal for a piano to need to be retuned, as moving affects its tension and sound.
Your piano will be carefully wrapped in moving blankets, ensuring that there is sufficient grip for safe lifting. Sensitive parts will be given extra protection if necessary. During transport, the piano will be placed in a stable position and securely fastened in the truck to prevent shocks and unwanted movements. Tip: Here is a video in which our mover explains how we handle this.
On average between 180 and 350 kg, depending on the type. Don’t know the exact weight? No problem. Based on the type of piano (upright, grand, baby grand, or grand), we can estimate this correctly and tailor the move accordingly.

We move pianos weighing up to 350 kg, including:
– Upright pianos
– Baby grand pianos
For both private and professional customers, anywhere in Belgium.

Yes. Standard coverage is provided through BKV insurance (€125 per m³ of damage with an excess of €250.00) as we are a Certified Mover. For higher values, we recommend additional insurance.
TIP: For pianos with a higher (emotional or financial) value, we recommend additional insurance for extra peace of mind. This can be arranged via verzekerjeverhuis.be.

Yes. An upright piano and a (baby) grand piano each require a different approach. The weight, shape, and center of gravity determine how the piano is protected, lifted, and transported.

In some cases, yes, but it depends on:
– The width and slope of the stairs
– The type of piano
– The turning points
We will always opt to do this with a removal lift, which is often safer and faster.

Yes. A piano can easily be part of a regular move, but it always requires extra attention, manpower, and protection. That is why it is important that we know in advance that a piano will be moved.
Are you only moving a piano? That is also possible, of course. This is simply covered by our standard moving rates.

Yes. If necessary, your piano can be stored temporarily in our furniture storage facility, which is secure, dry, and heated (i.e., stable temperature). This can be useful, for example, in the case of a phased move or renovations. Our furniture storage facility is located in Wilrijk (Antwerp).
