Full-service removal checklist

You have decided to get a removal company to do the complete house move. Contact Dockx Movers, sales@dockx-movers.be. Bear in mind that the busiest times for house moves are the weekend and the end of the month.
Cancel your rental contract.
Carry out necessary repairs. In this way you will avoid problems with the inventory and checklist.
Check that the area around both properties is not closed off on the desired moving date (market, diversion, funfair, no-cars day etc.)
Book your removal van and/or self-build ladder lift with Dockx Rental. Be aware that it is cheaper to rent during the week than at the weekend. Get advice from a Dockx Service Shop in your area.
Check out schools or crèches in your new area. Inform your present school and collect school reports and statements.
Find a doctor, dentist and pharmacy near your new home.
Contact your friends and family. Send them a change of address, and ask if they might perhaps help with the move.

Inform your employer of your house move. Check whether you are allowed a day off with pay.
Confirm the moving date.
Arrange Removal Insurance for the value of the goods to be moved. Dockx can help you with this.
Notify the water, gas and electricity suppliers, and request their forms to change your address. Arrange for a meter reading.
Arrange for the phone landline to be disconnected, and set up a phone account at the new address. In addition, have your cable and internet subscription transferred to your new address.
Contact the Post Office about forwarding your mail. With the Do-My-Move form you can inform your service providers of your move.
Make arrangements with your bank for a move to a new bank or branch in your new place of residence.
Inform the pension fund, RVA, VDAB, OCMW, HWV, child benefit fund, ACTIRIS and Kind en Gezin (Child and Family).

Our complete service package comprises

Packing and unpacking of your goods (kitchen, books, tableware, glass, clothing etc,). Dockx Movers will take care of the correct packing materials: from special boxes for books, clothing and tableware, to mattress protectors, plate protectors and silk paper.
Dismantling and re-assembling furniture (including valuable brand or designer furniture).
Loading and unloading of the removal van.
Moving special items such as a piano, sun bed, jukebox, etc.
Disconnecting and reconnecting electrical appliances (cooker, TV, etc.)
Taking down and putting up curtains and chandeliers.
Placing of all furniture according to a floor plan.

Cancel the insurances for your old address and take them out again for your new address (such as home insurance).
Inform your health insurance and your doctor. Should you have to move to a different GP because of the move, ask for your medical records to be transferred.
Arrange with the new owner the inventory and checklist on moving in, and organise the deposit.
Inform the subscription departments of newspapers and magazines.
Ask for the Garbage Collection calendar, and the location of the municipal waste dump, or download the ‘Recycle!-app’.
Take what you want to get rid of to the municipal waste dump or to the Kringloopwinkel (they organise re-sale of unwanted furniture etc.)
Use up the food in your freezer and other stored supplies.
Organising a parking ban with the local council.

Check that all lockers (school, sports club) are empty.
If your pet has an electronic chip, notify the central animal database.
Arrange for someone to look after your children and pets on the day of the move.

Switch off the freezer and the fridge. Empty and defrost both.
Pack a small suitcase with things you need for one night (blankets, pillows, toiletries, etc.)
Use the Dockx Key Box for everything you will need the next day (chargers, important keys to cupboards, etc.)
Go and check to make sure that no one has parked on the reserved parking spot so that the Dockx removal van can park easily. And everyone can get to work immediately.
Check if the reserved parking area is still free.

Make sure you have enough cash on you
Have the gas, water and electricity meters read
Drain water pipes if the weather is very frosty
Your project manager from Dockx Movers will be there for you. Go through the house with him and discuss what still has to happen, so that your moving team will be aware of any special requirements or specific instructions.
Tell the Dockx Movers moving team what you will need first when you arrive at your new location. They will then make sure that these items are loaded last.
Everything has been loaded and the removal team is ready to leave? Are you sure you haven’t forgotten anything? Walk around the house one last time for a final check.

Check for possible removal damage.
Register with the new municipal council offices, Civil Affairs department within a week to notify them of your new address.
Get your address changed on your identity card and your driving licence at the registry office.
Get your address changed on your direct debit bills.
Apply to the local council for your residents parking permit.
Check whether any deliveries were made to the old address after you moved.
Get to know the new neighbours, new suppliers, local societies.
